There is no denying that I love my state, I couldn’t name this site unless it had something to do with Texas in it. The Texas 87th Legislature provided us with some great bills.

For a while it seemed like Florida took the torch from Texas as the leading conservative state in the country. It often felt like we had taken the #2 position. That is not taking away from the job Ron DeSantis has done in Florida and preserving individual freedom and fighting back against the left. But Texas is doing better.

As of late though, I feel like Texas has taken the mantle back and is at the forefront of representing what other conservative states should model.

I have had my issues with Governor Greg Abbott in the past for a couple of decisions he made early on in the pandemic but he has since then redeemed himself.

Recently, I endorsed Allen West in a previous article as our next governor in 2022. I voted for Abbott in 2018 and I can say I am happy with my decision. He hasn’t exactly done a terrible job with the state. I’m still going with West but it wouldn’t be the end of the world if Abbott wins. He is far better than Newsome or Whitmer up in Michigan.

Greg Abbott has driven liberals insane on Twitter with some of his recent moves. Like I said about Trump, if the left is going nuts then he must be doing something right.

So what has been happening here in the Lone Star State? Let’s take a look as the Texas 87th Legislature is over.

Border Security

Both the State House and Senate passed a $1.8 billion border security bill which allocates $1 billion to finish building the border wall. $450 million will be used to continue deploying the National Guard and Texas DPS officers to the border.

Critical Race Theory

The Texas Legislature passed a bill which will restrict the teaching of the dangerous CRT in Texas schools. This is something that must be fought at the state and local levels if we are going to have a chance to defeat liberalism.

Banning homeless encampments

HB 1925 bans homeless encampments in the state. The bill makes it illegal to set up shelter for an extended period of time. It also makes it illegal for cities to enact policies that will legalize public homeless encampments.

Blocking emergency vehicles

Anyone blocking an emergency vehicle, for example by “peacefully protesting”, will be subject to 6 months to 2 years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine.

Constitutional Carry

Here is a piece from Texashomepage.com on the bill:

Anyone age 21 who can legally own a handgun can legally carry that handgun in public without a license or training. It is illegal however to carry that gun while intoxicated and the law includes stiffer penalties for felons caught illegally carrying guns. The law was not passed without controversy. Some law enforcement groups said the law would endanger the public and police while supporters said would allow Texans to better defend themselves in public while abolishing unnecessary impediments to the constitutional right to bear arms. Texas law also makes some places always off-limits to firearms and the new law does not change where guns cannot be carried, including: a polling place; a government meeting open to the public; a courthouse; a school or school-related activity; a racetrack; a jail; an airport; an amusement park; a bar; a restaurant selling alcohol.

Election Security

This is a big one which has driven the left nuts.

Greg Abbott signed Senate Bill 1 into law which does a variety of things to prevent cheating in future elections.

The new law makes it a state felony for public officials to send out unsolicited mail-in ballot applications to Texas voters.

ID will now be required for absentee voting, which is apparently a big problem for Democrats. A driver’s license number, state ID number or the last 4 digits of your social will have to be provided on the envelope when requesting an absentee ballot.

The bill requires counties to hold at least nine hours of voting during the early voting period that can begin as early as 6 a.m. and go as late as 10 p.m.

It also bans 24 hour voting.

There will be added penalties for ballot harvesting or paid ballot collecting.

This bill even gives added protections to workers to take time off of work during early voting.

This is a racist bill, look at it. How will I, a Black and Guatemalan man be able to vote? I have been voting since 2008 but for some reason, this could end all of that. This bill has disenfranchised me at all levels from voting. Okay, I’m obviously kidding but this is the narrative Democrats are trying to push.

Abortion

This is a huge victory for now, for the Pro-Life movement. After the Supreme Court decided 5-4 to not weigh in on an appeal from abortion providers, the Heartbeat Bill signed by Greg Abbott in May has become law.

The bill prohibits women from having abortions once a heartbeat is detected.

Devout Catholic Joe Biden opposes the law.

I love Texas

Texas is leading the way. We will continue to stand up to the radical administration currently inhabiting the White House and protect the life of the unborn as well as fight for free and fair elections.

The 87th Texas Legislature provided us with some needed victories.
