I came across a very alarming article on Townhall.com by John Stossel which draws similarities between the Democrat agenda and Venezuela.
Packing or expanding the Supreme Court, gun confiscation, the printing of mass amounts of money are all things Democrats in power have advocated for. The scary thing is, all of this happened in Venezuela and it didn’t have a positive outcome. Which is why everyone needs to pay attention.
Gun Confiscation
Liberals in the past have openly called for the confiscation of guns. Here are a few times Democrats have called for the removal of our firearms:
Former Governor of New York Andre Cuomo said “Confiscation could be an option,” “Mandatory sale to the state could be an option.”
Failed Senate and Presidential candidate Beto said during a Democrat debate, “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against a fellow American anymore,”
Our current Vice President in name only said she openly supports a mandatory buyback program.
Republicans are not off the hook. 135 House GOP members voted yes for the National Defense Authorization Act, which had a red flag provision in the bill. One of those members come from my district, Beth Van Duyne.
What this does is it allows for the gun confiscation of those who are believed to be a threat to themselves or others. So what will the standard be? It can be lowered to whatever the court order says, even if there are no mental health issues.
We can take a look at Venezuela if we want to see that governments can confiscate guns. In an article from 2018 by The Daily Wire, in 2012 the South American country passed the “Control of Arms, Munitions and Disarmament Law.” This effectively banned the sale of guns except to government entities. If a citizen was caught with or selling a gun, they will get 20 years in prison.
The law took effect in 2013 and during that year, only 37 guns were turned in voluntary and over 12,000 were seized. In 2014 the government spent $47 million to set up 60 voluntary gun drop off centers.
A former gun store owner in the country, who now is only allowed to sell fishing supplies had this to say to Fox News:
“Venezuelans didn’t care enough about it. The idea of having the means to protect your home was seen as only needed out in the fields. People never would have believed they needed to defend themselves against the government,” “Venezuelans evolved to always hope that our government would be non-tyrannical, non-violator of human rights, and would always have a good enough control of criminality.”
“If guns had been a stronger part of our culture, if there had been a sense of duty for one to protect their individual rights, and as a show of force against a government power – and had legal carry been a common thing – it would have made a huge difference,”
Well there you have it, straight from the source. This is why we are in a better position to defend our rights against a tyrannical government. Hunting, firearm training, carry-permits, gun shows and most of all, the 2nd Amendment is a part of our culture and our right in America. Venezuelans were naive to the fact that their government was capable of cracking down on their means of protection.
So did the disarmament of citizens lead to lower crime? The murder rate went up from 73 per 100,000 in 2012 to 91.8 per 100,000 in 2016.
Even an MSNBC reporter made the case for the 2nd Amendment here in America after watching citizens of Venezuela get mowed down by military vehicles.
Expanding the Supreme Court
During Trump’s term, he appointed 3 judges to the nation’s highest court. Democrats obviously don’t like the idea that there is a 5-4 conservative lean so what do they do? Introduce a bill this year which would expand the number of justices from 9 to 13.
In 2004, authoritarian leader Hugo Chavez expanded the country’s highest court from 20 justices to 32. Studies show the court ruled in his favor 45,000 times!!
The successor to Chavez was hand-picked Nicolas Maduro who replaced the court with 13 new judges who would continue to favor the regime.
Expanding the court is something Joe Biden is currently looking into. This is a sure fire way to get rid of the 2nd Amendment because don’t think for a second that Biden would put in conservative judges. They will be a bunch of partisan hacks.
Other issues
Venezuela’s government says bakeries are only allowed to produce French bread or white loaves with government-imported flour and are only able to sell between 7am-7pm. They also require that bakeries use 90 percent of government-imported flour to make savory bread and only 10 percent for sweet bread.
Maduro said those who are not following the price control of the government, are waging a “bread war” on the country and will pay.
Two bakers were arrested for using too much wheat in sweet bread. Also, two bakeries were seized by the government for 90 days for breaking rules.
If that’s not scary enough, in 2001 Huge Chavez said private property is not private, it belongs to the nation. 5 million acres of land was redistributed in an attempt to take private property from landowners and give to the poor. The plan backfired.
They also have a poverty rate of 94.5% poverty rate and 76.6% of the population lives in extreme poverty according to Reuters.
Illhan Omar introduced a bill last year which would allow the government to ultimately seize private property.
Now on to inflation, which we are dealing with in the U.S. at the moment. 5.4% year over year and the highest level in gas prices since 2014. It is nothing compared to the 24.6% seen in May 2021 month over month and over 2,000% year over year in Venezuela.
Do I think we will become Venezuela? No I don’t because I believe in the American people and we will win this war against tyranny. Could it happen? possibly. That is if we do nothing.
But you can see there are similarities in what has happened in Venezuela and what is being proposed here. I will say, what we are experiencing right now in America is the closest thing I’ve seen to communism in my life. Which is why I’m not sitting back and many others aren’t.
We are seeing an uprising in a stand for freedom. Parents are showing up at school board meetings fighting back against Critical Race Theory, thousands are protesting vaccine mandates across the country, red states are pushing back and a parallel economy is being created as an alternative to left wing dominance in our culture.
Don’t get complacent.
